2 God, the Father The God-Class (Godhead) is Composed of Three Persons: –God, the Father: 2 Cor. 11:31 – “The God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ…” –God, the Holy Spirit: Lk. 1:35 & Heb. 10:5; Acts 5:3 & 4 – Body of Jesus Prepared by Holy Spirit (God) – Ananias Lied to Holy Spirit (God) –God, the Son: Jn. 1:1, 14; Col. 2:9

3 God, the Father The Father as Director in Creation and Redemption (Acts 4:24; Rev. 4:11): –Though Christ is Identified as Primary Creator, the Father Directed in Creation: Hebrews 1:1-3 – “God, who at various times and in different ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets, has in these last days spoken to us by His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the worlds: Who being the brightness of His glory and the express image of His person, and upholding all things by the word of His power, when He had by Himself purged our sins, sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high”

4 God, the Father The Father as Director in Creation and Redemption: –Though Christ is Identified as Primary Creator, the Father Directed in Creation: Hebrews 1:1-3 – “God, who at various times and in different ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets, has in these last days spoken to us by His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the worlds: Who being the brightness of His glory and the express image of His person, and upholding all things by the word of His power, when He had by Himself purged our sins, sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high” The “GOD” of This Passage Is the FATHER

5 God, the Father The Father as Director in Creation and Redemption: –Christ: Primary Creator: Hebrews 1:8-12 – “But to the Son He says: ‘Your throne, O God, is forever and ever; A scepter of righteousness is the scepter of your kingdom, ‘You have loved righteousness and hated lawlessness; Therefore God, Your God has anointed you with the oil of gladness more than your companions.’

But you are the same, and your years will not fail’”

8 God, the Father The Father as Director in Creation and Redemption: –Christ: Primary Creator: Colossians 1:15-17 – “He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. “For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him” And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist”

9 God, the Father The ROLE of God, the Father: –Though God’s Fatherly Role is Suggested in the O.T.: Exodus 4:22 – Moses to Tell Pharaoh That Israel Was His “Son… His Firstborn” Psalm 103:13 – “As a father pities his children, so the Lord pities those who fear Him” (see also, 27:10 - Father/Mother last to forsake ) –The Role of God as Father Is Not Fully Developed and Revealed Until The Incarnation of Christ (Ps. 2:7; 2 Sam. 7:14)

10 God, the Father The ROLE of God, the Father: –Jesus Instructed That Prayers be Addressed to the Father (Matt. 6:9) –Jesus Addressed Prayers to the Father (Matt. 11:25; 26:39; Jn. 11:41, 42; 12:27-30; 17:1-ff) –Father’s ROLE “Greater” Than Son’s: John 14:28; 10:29; Lk. 2:49 Son Obeyed the Father: (Jn. 4:34; 6:38; 8:29; Heb. 5:8 – Note: See Phil. 2:8)

11 God, the Father The ROLE of God, the Father: –The Nature of the Father Was Revealed by the Son: John 8:19 – “…You know neither Me nor My Father. If you had known Me, you would have known My Father also” John 1:14, 18; 5:17-20; 10:30; 14:7-9; 12:45; 15:23 –The Father is the Source of Revelation (Matt. 11:25-27; 24:36 cp. 1 Cor. 2:2 ; Jn. 12:48-50; 15:15)

12 God, the Father The ROLE of God, the Father: –The Redeeming Work of Christ Enables Humans to Achieve Their Purpose of Sonship to God: 1 John 3:1 – “Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed upon us, that we should be called children of God! Therefore the world does not know us, because it did not know Him.

13 God, the Father The ROLE of God, the Father: –The Redeeming Work of Christ Enables Humans to Achieve Their Purpose of Sonship to God: 1 John 3:2 – “Behold, now we are children of God; and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we that when He is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is.” 1 John 3:5 – “And you know that He was manifested to take away our sins, and in Him there is no sin.” (see also vs. 8)

14 God, the Father The ROLE of God, the Father: –Redemption Allows ADOPTION: Romans 8:14-17 – “For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are the sons of God. 15 For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, ‘Abba, Father.’ 16 The Spirit Himself bearing witness with our spirit that we are the children of God, 17 And if children, then heirs – heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ…”

15 God, the Father The ROLE of God, the Father: –Redemption Allows ADOPTION: Romans 8:14-17 – “For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are the sons of God. For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, ‘Abba, Father.’ The Spirit Himself bearing witness with our spirit that we are the children of God, And if children, then heirs – heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ…” (see Gal. 4:4-7)

16 God, the Father The ROLE of God, the Father: –The Father is to be Obeyed (Matt. 7:21; 12:50) –The Father is to be Imitated (Matt. 5:45, 48) –The Father is to be Glorified (Matt. 5:16) –The Father is to be Worshipped (John 4:21-24)
