1 Welcome to Ms. McLaughlin’s 7 th Grade English Class quinn.mclaughlin@shorelineschools.org 206-393-6075 Directions: 1) Pick up one Post-it from your table and write your child’s name (first and last) on the top 2) Below their name, please write a short sentence that describes your child. You can write a few traits, strengths, weaknesses or a combination of both. I will use this information to help me develop a better relationship with your child =)

2 About Me… I wanted to be a teacher at age 5 Taught 6, 7 and 8 th grades at Whitman Middle School in Seattle from 2008-2014 Einstein – this is my 2 nd year here. I have worked in a variety of teaching capacities: tutoring, one-on-one and small group Writing and Reading Support, Special Education, Literacy Support and co-teaching I want your students to enjoy this class and feel comfortable being themselves

5 English 7 Curriculum: “The Choices We Make” Embedded Assessments: The Outsiders Thematic Statement – first Book Club and Assessment Book Clubs (4 total over the course of the year) Debate/Research and Argumentative Essay Tangerine Novel/Character Development/Literary Essay

6 Our year continued… Biographical Presentations William Shakespeare’s “Much Ado About Nothing”

7 Grades… Grades are feedback given to students to help them understand where they are at and where they need to go… I update grades to Data Dashboard once every two weeks or more

8 Grading continued… 70% Assessments- essays, book clubs, other skill work 20% Practice – in class assignments and formative assessments, post its, exit tickets 10% Academic Responsibility – turning in work on time, behavior, Library PRIDE
