User Vice Chairs Report Liu Chuang Lorant Czaran 21th WGISS Meeting, 8 May 2006, Budapest, Hungry

1.World Summit on Information Society 2. Users Programs Survey Continues 3. Follow up consideration

World Summit on Information Society Phase I: Geneva 2003 Phase II: Tunis 2005

More than 140 countries and 12000 participations to attend the Summit

ICT Based Near Real Time Remote Sensing Data Sharing System for Water Resources Research and Management of China Presentation by Liu Chuang, LI Maotang WSIS Tunis, 16 Nov. 2006

There is an urgent need for China water resources research and management to have a near real time information sharing and quick response system, especially for economic uses of water resources, reducing natural hazards and water pollution, protecting the dams security and scientific research on water-soil erosions.

Supported by Ministry of Science and Technology of China, Ministry of Water Resources Management of China and Chinese Academy of Sciences, the ICT based remote sensing information sharing system for water resources research and management of China has been initialed.

It consists 5 sub-systems, including : A distributed satellites data capture and processing sub-system in Beijing and Xinjiang, An aircrafts remote sensing system with fixed and moved ground stations, An integrated telecommunication satellite and high speed internet sub- system, A data processing, integration and mining sub-system and A multiple applications sub-system.

This is an unique facility and information infrastructure for near real time water related information sharing system in China, which marks a new milestone in e-research and e-management of water resource of China in the information society, it will greatly help China in Sustainable Development and better life.

2. User Survey Continues: Are there any programs or action plans which missionary are close to that of WGISS? If yes, which kinds of WGISS’ resources have been used in these programs? Are there any new products created by these programs (data/tools/systems)? PIs, Participations, Products, Outcomes
