2. 2 Students watch videos etc. to understand material prior to class meeting Problem: May develop subtle misunderstandings Current approach: In-class discussions meant to help students overcome the misunderstandings... but effectiveness? 3. 3 Fact: People learn best when they discuss their ideas rather than hear a presentation Fact: The most effective discussions are those among peers, not between students and instructors! 4. 4 Phase 1: Individual students answer a conceptual multiple-choice question that also has an explanation component Phase 2: The app assigns students to anonymous groups of 4-5 students each ensuring that each group is made up of students with conflicting ideas CONSIDER... an app in which Conflicting Student Ideas are Explored & Resolved CONSIDER (in CSE 3231)
