Criteria and Expectations You will need to let me/the class know what you have chosen by tomorrow (type and name of project) While the amount you sign will change with the kind of project you choose, you must have a minimum of TWO minutes signing time. You will likely be closer to 3 or 4 minutes This project is INDIVIDUAL or ONE PARTNER, however, do not rely on a partner for presentation. If they are not here, you still must present (all parts) of the project. Do not split a non-duet. If you present half a project, it will result in half a grade. 4. SimCom Simultaneous communication is talking/whispering and signing at the same time. BAD HABIT, tsk, tsk Don’t do it It’s still “talking” You end up signing English or talking ASL – neither is considered “acceptable”

5. Picking or Writing a Poem Poems can be a challenge because so many consist of double meanings, figurative language, and messages that can be decoded only by the writer There are many amazing visual poems – you can even write one – so be sure you pick one that you understand or are willing to analyze until you do understand it

6. Monologues Monologues are often thoughts or thought processes on a topic They can make a statement, political, personal, almost anything – check “monologues” out on Google or YouTube. 7. Stories Stories are a lot of fun when they are done correctly The best story tellers show visualization and exert confidence when they present their story and use space well Using facial expression is extremely important in ASL story telling – your expression, alone, can tell a story

8. Picking a Song Picking a song to interpret can be a challenge. Why? The best songs to interpret have stories in them What to avoid – Literally signing figurative language – Incorrectly interpreting idioms (A piece of cake) – Meaningless sounds and words – Repetition (boring!)
