Anne Frank was born on June 12, 1929, in Frankfurt, Germany. Anne had a sister named Margot. Her mom and dad were Edith and Otto. The Franks was Jews. We remember Anne because of her diary.

In 1942, Jews were required to wear the Star of David, a symbol of Judaism, on their clothes to identify themselves. Soon Jews were being rounded up and sent to concentration camps where millions of people were killed.

Also in 1942, during the Nazi Occupation, Anne Frank’s family went into hiding behind the Amsterdam office of her father’s business. They were joined by four other people. With the help of some non-Jewish friends, the hideaways were supplied with food and other bare necessities.

The Franks was discovered on August 4, 1944, when the security police found them. They were acting on a tip from a Dutch informant. Anne Frank’s diary is not just a girl’s diary, it is an important part of history. Anne wrote in her diary everyday while her family was in hiding.

Anne died in the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp in Germany in March of 1945.
