Certainty vs. Doubt: Exemplars “A question is like a flashlight that we shine into the darkness, allowing us to move forward into the unknown and uncertain.” In groups of 3-4, read the rubric specific to this timed write, and then read the three exemplar essays. Highlight each thesis statement Assign a score to each essay. This MUST be reached through group consensus – NO AVERAGES OR FRACTIONS. Have a discussion about the strengths and weaknesses of each essay. Relate your findings to your own TW from yesterday. If your group finishes before the end of class: See me for further directions

Table Scoring In groups of 3-4: Create a process where each essay is scored by at least three people. Please each use a different color pen. Each essay needs to have a list of 5 SPECIFIC WAYS it could be made stronger. Think back to the T-chart you made for the USPS Synthesis exemplar essay. Give feedback that is as useful as the feedback you would want to receive! Each essay needs to have a score. This MUST be reached through group consensus – NO AVERAGES OR FRACTIONS. Use the language of the rubric to guide your discussion about the score.
