2 Do you remember what a preposition does in a sentence
Do you remember what a preposition does in a sentence? A preposition relates nouns and pronouns to other parts of a sentence.

3 Can you think of any prepositions
Can you think of any prepositions? Write as many as you can in your notes NOW! Use the blue language book to check your answers. You will find prepositions on page 400.

4 Where will I find prepositions?
We find prepositions inside PREPOSITIONAL PHRASES Prepositional phrases add nonessential information or “fluff” to a sentence. These include a preposition, the noun or pronoun, and any adjectives in between. Example: I ate a banana at the table

5 -the is an adjective describing table
In the sentence “I ate a banana at the table” -At is the preposition -table is the noun being related to the sentence (this is called the “object of the preposition) -the is an adjective describing table -our prepositional phrase is “at the table” All prepositional phrases follow this pattern REGARDLESS of where they occur in a sentence.

7 Prepositional phrases can occur anywhere in a sentence
Prepositional phrases can occur anywhere in a sentence. At the beginning…….. Before lunch, I stopped by the library. In the middle……. The cat jumped on the table to catch a moth. At the end…….. She slipped on the ice.

8 Check What You Remember!!!!!!

9 Practice: Fill the blanks with prepositions that will make sense, underline the objects of the prepositions The baby put food _______his hair. _______church a woman fainted. I put the towels ________the washing machine ________for Mom, everyone enjoyed the party. The bus crashed ______the window.

11 Let’s find some prepositional phrases
Let’s find some prepositional phrases! TIPs: these will start with prepositions and end in nouns or pronouns. If you remove a prepositional phrase, your sentence should still be a sentence. Underline the prepositional phrases in the paragraph. Circle the prepositions, underline the objects. During the snowstorm, a car crashed into a tree outside my house. Luckily, no one in the car was injured. My mom invited the family that was in the car, to come into our house for some hot chocolate while they waited for a tow truck.
