3 Goal Introduce some questions / solutions in economics of networks and of the Internet Discuss some current research problems Use concepts learned in game theory Sometimes introduce more advanced game theory topics

4 Philosophy Not exhaustive Not one textbook: I pick things I like from different books / papers Chances to understand without attending the class are low Enjoy!

6 Grading By groups of 2 (one group of 3 is accepted), choose a paper – 2-4 pages summary due Jan 23 rd, 23:59 – 50% of grade Understanding of the paper Organization and clarity of the exposition Good presentation, references Proposing / analyzing relevant extensions / new ideas gives bonus (in that case, you can exceed 4 pages (no page limit)) – 20 minutes presentation (+10 min questions) on the last class (Jan. 24th) – 50% of grade Understanding of the paper Clarity and synthesis of the presentation – Summary/presentation need not be exhaustive (i.e., some parts of the paper may remain uncovered) Grade individually modulated +/- 2 points – Participation in class – Involvement in the project (mostly evaluated by answers to questions)

8 Advice for the papers They are hard papers They will require to look at other papers to be fully understood (excuses such as “we have not seen that in class” will not be accepted) Read them early Search for additional references Come ask me questions

9 Paper selection process Make groups, read all papers abstracts Before choosing, take a closer look at the papers that looks interesting to you Send me an email with the name of people in your group and 2 choices of paper ordered by preference by next class (Dec. 6, 8:45am) We will resolve conflicts (if any) at the beginning of next class (Dec. 6, 8:45am)
