2 Destination Criteria Though the Design Process Preliminary Criteria of key destinations and departments part of the mission statement. In the Wayfinding Analysis destinations are analyzed by referent name and placed in a hierarchy in the facility. In the conceptual design stage the destination hierarchy is utilized in creating a wayfinding vocabulary. In the design process the destination criteria is tested in developing routes through the facility.

3 Mission Statement Define the major identity of the facility The main building identity The major departments in the facility The major support areas in the facility A basic description of the facility One floor or multiple floors Campus or building Parking garages Major atrium or architectural attributions

5 Wayfinding Analysis Includes Identity analysis and review Review of Visitor experience as it relates to destination naming Analysis of major department names Review of main addressing system (Naming, numbering) Analyze specific wayfinding scenarios based on destination nomenclature

21 Tasks for the Pilot Healthcare Facilities Step 1: Develop a preliminary mission statement list Main facility name Basic facility description Top departments and destinations including main public spaces Step 2: Develop a basic map showing all the destinations currently known. Step 3: Review the list of symbols currently developed. Match the symbols with similar destinations. Call out the major destinations where no universal symbol exists yet. Step 4: Review the names of all the department destinations calling or potential conflicts, using the destination criteria sheet.
