2. Possessive nouns tell you who or what something belongs to.

3. Possessive Nouns  Possession = Owning or having  Possessive nouns are used to show ownership.  They are words that would normally be nouns, but are used as adjectives.

4. Rule 1  Add an ‘s to make a singular noun possessive The ear on the puppy is soft. The ear on the puppy is soft. The puppy’s ear is soft. The puppy’s ear is soft.

5. Rule 2  Add only an ‘ to make a plural noun possessive. The desks of the students were brown. The desks of the students were brown. The students’ desks were brown. The students’ desks were brown.

6. Rule 3  Add an ‘s to a plural nouns that doesn’t end in s. The room of the children was dark. The room of the children was dark. The children’s room was dark. The children’s room was dark.
