Comparing MO with other States Missouri spends less on state services than most other states, ranking 45th nationally: State and local funding for elementary and secondary education ranks 37th nationally; Funding for higher education ranks 45th nationally; Medicaid assistance for low income parents is third lowest in the nation; Missouri ranks 50th in state funding for public health programs; and Missouri ranks 46th in revenue spent per mile on roads and highways.
