1. Music recording systems 2. Music and media (Films, advertisements, etc.)
3
We can divide these systems in 3 groups… ◦ Acoustic Era (from1875 until 1925) ◦ Electrical Era (from 1925 until 1975) ◦ Digital Era (from 1975 until nowadays)
4
PHONOGRAPH ◦ It was the first recording system. Invented by Thomas Alva Edison ◦ Here you can see how it works… http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qGJR2DZBfF0 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qGJR2DZBfF0
5
GRAMOPHONE ◦ It was the evolution of the phonograph ◦ It uses Vinyl disk to record the music through a mechanical process. ◦ Surprisingly, it doesn´t need any electricity to play the disk as you will see in this video…!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iRMDaOBxUXk&feat ure=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iRMDaOBxUXk&feat ure=related In the Voyager spacecraft there is instructions about how to use it…

7
MAGNETIC TAPE ◦ This system is traditionally known by Tape recorder or Cassette ◦ It recorded using a couple of magnets which create a magnetic field around a tape ◦ This system adds a lof of high frecuency noise to the sound
8
MAGNETIC TAPE
9
Compact Disc (CD) ◦ It appeared in 80´s decade. The player uses laser beam when is reading the disc ◦ The sound quality is better and the storage space bigger
11
MP3 ◦ It is like a small computer which can read mp3 files ◦ MP3 file is a compressed file which has been filtered deleting so many background sounds in order to reduce the file size… ◦ It reduces as well the sound quality…
