Doxology Praise God, from whom all blessings flow; Praise Him, all creatures here below; Praise Him above, ye heavenly host; Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.— Amen.

John 17 The Great High Priestly Prayer of our Lord!

John 17:20-26 Jesus Prays for the Church!

John 17:23 The Indwelling of Christ Provides the Church a Perfect Unity.

Doctrine of the Indwelling of the Jesus Christ D. The relationship between the indwelling of Christ and the indwelling of the Holy Spirit.

1. The indwelling of the Holy Spirit provides a temple for the indwelling of Christ as the Shekinah glory. 1 Cor 3:16; 6:19-20; 2 Cor 6:16

Solomon’s Temple

1 Cor 3:16, “Do you not know that you are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?”

2 Cor 6:16: The “idols” refers to the Corinthian Pagan temples and some of the believers were still going back there.

2. The indwelling of Jesus Christ is the beginning of the unique spiritual life. Rom 8:10

Rom 8:10, “For if Christ is in you (and he is); on the one hand the body is dead because of the sin nature, but on the other hand the spirit is (the unique) life because of (imputed Divine) +R.”

3. From the GAP we learn about the indwelling of Christ which results in the transformation of our lives into the image of the Shekinah Glory. 2 Cor 3:14 ‑ 18

Principles: 2 Cor 3:14; 1. Because the unbelieving Jews had rejected Christ as savior, they suffered from scar tissue of the soul, “a veil over their minds”.

2. They read about Christ in the OT, but did not understand and follow the pattern of Rom 9:30 ‑ 33. Therefore, they sought to be justified by the law, as per Gal 2:16.

3. This “veil” is removed when one believes in Jesus Christ.

Principles: 2 Cor 3:15; 1. This scar tissue makes it impossible to understand the doctrine they repeat; “ADONAI ELOHENU, ADONAI ECHAD” (The Lord is God, the Lord is One).

2. They could not see Christ dwelling between the cherubs in the Tabernacle. There was a veil between the Holy Place and the Holy of Holies…

Veil Holy Place Holy of Holies

…but they could see Jesus Christ from the articles of sacred furniture taught by the priests, …

… and from the Theophanies, like the cloud over the Tabernacle.

3. Today when a Jew believes in Christ, the veil is removed, and the Shekinah Glory indwells his body.

Now Christ can be seen, not literally, but by understanding, through the teaching ministry of the Spirit, the indwelling of Christ.

This is the analogy of the Temple veil being torn in two after the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. Mat 27:51; Mark 15:38; Luke 23:45.

Principle: 2 Cor 3:16; Paul had to explain the blindness of the judaizers, since the Corinthians had accepted their teaching and had become legalistic.

Principles: 2 Cor 3:17; 1. The Holy Spirit is called “Lord” in Isa 6:8 ‑ 9 cf. Acts 28:25-27; Jer 31:31 ‑ 34 cf. Heb 10:15 ‑ 17.
