The Day Sam Saved the World By Andrew

It all started on a sunny day. Sam was playing outside in the backyard with his toy bone. Sam is a three year old dog. His two favorite things to do are roll in the grass and chase the other dogs.

If it was raining he would sleep until he could go outside. If he had a Hummer he would stick his head out the window and think he was a movie star.

His best dog friend is Suzzie the pug. Suzzie is big in the middle. She likes to play with her food and water.

Suddenly Sam said, “Look up in the sky, it is a spaceship!” “Where is it?” Suzzie said. “It is not there anymore,” said Sam. “What color was it?” Suzzie said. “I don’t know. It went too fast. All I saw was the spaceship.” said Sam.

So they went to Rover’s house to see if he saw it. Rover was a dog that lives down the street.

When they got there they asked him and he said, “Yes, I saw it. Before you both came they landed and told me what they were looking for. They are alien dogs from another planet. They have been looking for the chosen one and you are the one, Sam.”

Said Rover. “You will have to play a chess tournament in tow weeks and if you win, you will have saved the world. But if you lose, the world will be taken over.”

“I don’t know how to play chess and it is a hard game to learn. I don’t think I can learn it in two weeks.” Said Sam. “I can teach you how to play in one week, I hope.” Said Rover.

“There is one thing you should know before I start teaching you how to play chess. I will have to stop and run after the cars that pass by.” “We can’t have that because a lot of cars pass by here and you will never be able to teach me how to play chess in one week,” said Sam.

Suzzie and Sam decided they would have to break Rover’s bad habit of running after cars. So they found a car and tied some tin cans behind it. They asked the driver to drive slowly by Rover’s house.

When the car went by, he could not resist running it. Rover grabbed one of the tin cans with his mouth and one of his teeth got stuck in the can. Poor Rover could not get his tooth unhooked from the can. He was dragged down the street about half the block before his tooth was pulled out.

Rover got up and shook himself off and said, “That really hurt! I do not think I will ever run another car in my life. I can not believe that I grabbed the can and it dragged me down the street.” “Now that is over – on with chess,” said Sam.

When the day finally came, the alien dog returned. The alien dog’s name was Dingo XIV, but he said to call him Dingo. He came from the planet Pluto. He said, “My planet is different from yours. In my world, the animals control the planet. We mostly have dogs on my planet. We have a few cats and humans. We keep the humans on leashes and in cages.”

Dingo did not look like the earth dogs. He was mostly brown with faint green spots. He could not walk very fast because the force of gravity was much stronger on Earth than on Pluto.

It was the first round. They were in Sam’s backyard. Dingo said, “Checkmate.” (it means he won the game.) In the second round Sam got Dingo’s queen and checkmated his king. Sam won the second round. In the third round, it was tied and Sam said in his mind, “I am going to lose” and he did. “No!” Sam said. “I lost now he will take over the world.”

Dingo got out two little balls and threw them at Rover and Suzzie and captured them in a net. Dingo carried them away. Sam chased after the dogs. Dingo was too smart and he took them to his round ship and started the spaceship. He took them up into the sky.

Dingo ran off the cliff and said, “If you help me up I will let your friends go and I will not take over the world.” Sam got him up and then they went home together. So Sam followed them and saw where they landed. Rover said, “Sam will come and save us and stop your evil plan of taking over the world.” Then Sam jumped out and said, “Let go of them or else.” “No way,” said Dingo. Then they ran at each other and missed.

After this they made friends with each other and mostly lived happily ever after. Except for Rover who missed his tooth every time he tried to chew a bone.
