Math Curriculum This is our second year to use Origo Stepping Stones as our curriculum resource. It is designed to spiral so students who do not master a concept the first time will get a chance to strengthen it later. Workshop Model: 15-20 minute opening 30 minutes work period/small group 5-10 min closing 30 minute problem solving block
4
Module Parent Letters Each one of our modules comes with a parent letter. We will be sending these home through email but they can also be found on our website. On these parent letters you can find a basic explanation of things we will be focusing on during this module and ideas for what you can do at home.
5
Big Math Concepts in Fourth Grade These are the TEKS that we spend the most time on and/or tend to be a little more challenging for the students.
6
Add and subtract whole numbers and decimals to the hundredths place using the standard algorithm Multiply and divide four-digits by one- digit using a variety of methods, including the standard algorithm Round in all four operations (+, -, x, ÷) Number Sense
7
Understand improper fractions Compare fractions with unlike denominators Determine if fractions are equivalent Add and subtract fractions with like denominators Use benchmark fractions to determine reasonableness (is a fraction greater or less than ½) Decompose fractions, such as 5/2= ½ + ½ + ½ + ½ + ½ Fractions
8
Use formulas to find area and perimeter Use stem and leaf plots Convert between units in the metric or customary system Find elapsed time without tools Measurement
9
Identify points, lines, line segments, rays and angles Identify triangles based on their angles Measure degrees Use a protractor Draw an angle with a given measure Determine the measure of an unknown angle Geometry
10
Fixed/variable expenses Calculate profit Compare advantages and disadvantages of savings options Allocate weekly allowance for spending and savings Personal Financial Literacy

Math – How can you help? The jump from 3 rd grade to 4 th grade is large and students will need reinforcement at home: **Khan Academy and Learnzillion are a great resource for reviewing a concept. **Our goal is to send out resources each week that you can use to help your child if needed. Make sure students know their multiplication facts! **It relates to all areas of mathematics. **We are providing a list of fluency games and apps that you can download on your iPads or phones.
12
Homework Policy Homework goes home every Monday for the week. Students can complete it at their convenience Homework is due on Fridays. We check it together on those days. Part of homework for the first semester is fact fluency practice. 10-15 minutes a night is ideal. Kids can practice by using flash cards, apps or games.
13
Science This is also our second year to use Science Fusion for our curriculum resource Students will have a log in this once we set up our online classes Access digital lessons to reinforce the concepts being taught in class May also be used as content of the class or as homework for a ‘flipped’ classroom Students will find many other resources on the website
