2
Nervous System Carries messages to and from the brain and spinal cord and all other parts of the body.
3
The Nervous System Consists of the: Brain, Spinal Cord & Branching Nerves
4
The Nervous System is divided into two systems: Central Nervous System & Peripheral Nervous System
5
The Central Nervous System
6
The Central Nervous System consists of the: Brain & Spinal Cord
7
The Brain is a mass of Nerve Tissue
8
3 Parts of the Brain are: 1. Cerebrum 2. Cerebellum 3. Brain Stem
9
The Cerebrum Controls: Ability to Memorize, Think, & Learn
10
The Cerebellum Controls: Coordination of muscle activity.
11
The Brain Stem Includes the Medulla - and controls Involuntary Actions
12
The Spinal Cord Is a thick band of nerve cells that extends through the backbone. There are 31 pair of spinal nerves branching from it.
13
The Peripheral Nervous System
14
The Peripheral Nervous system consists of Cranial Nerves & Spinal Nerves
15
There are: 12 Pair of CRANIAL NERVES There are: 31 Pair of SPINAL NERVES
16
Cranial Nerves control Senses & Motor Activity
17
Spinal Nerves TRANSMIT information To & From All Parts of the Body
18
Neurons Are NERVE Cells. There are 2 types of Neurons: Sensory & Motor Neurons
19
Sensory Neurons: Carry messages FROM sense organs TO the brain.
20
Motor Neurons: Carries message FROM THE BRAIN TO MUSCLES & GLANDS
21
Controls ability to memorize, think, learn Controls coordination of Muscle activity Contains the medulla which controls involuntary actions such as heart rate and breathing
