Buridan’s ass is a donkey that was put precisely in the middle of two identical haystacks. They were equally appealing and he couldn’t decide which one to eat. He eventually died of starvation.
3
Buridan’s Ass is a paradox that illustrates the concept of free will. The paradox is named after the 14th century French philosopher Jean Buridan. It didn’t originate in Buridan’s time, but was first found in Aristotle’s De Caelo where Aristotle mentions an example of a man who makes no move because he is as hungry as he is thirsty and is positioned exactly between food and drink.
4
When people are feeling that they cannot figure out what to do, this or that, they say they are feeling like Buridan’s Ass. (Because he couldn’t decide which haystack to eat)
5
Technically, Jean Buridan created this determinism paradox. However, it was discovered in Aristotle’s book. Aristotle was a Greek Philosopher. He was a student of Plato and a teacher of Alexander the Great. He was born 384 BC and died 322 BC.
