Warm up Answer the following questions on the 5 themes of Geography: Describe absolute and relative location. Describe some positive and negative human interactions on the environment. Describe a few reasons why people may move from place to place.

Latitude Lines that run across the grid. The flat lines! The equator is a line of latitude. The equator divides the earth into 2 hemispheres (North and South)

Longitude The lines that run up and down. The “tall” lines! Longitude lines also called meridians. The prime meridian divides earth into 2 hemispheres (East and West)

Latitude/Longitude The prime meridian is the 0 point of Longitude The equator is the 0 point of Latitude

Weather VS Climate Generally refers to day-to- day temperature or precipitation! Rain, sunshine, hail, flooding, blizzards, ice storms, cold front, warm front Measured over a short time. Refers to the average conditions of a place over a given period of time. Temperature, sunshine, humidity, phenomenon (fog, frost, etc). Rest of class 1. Complete “Where in the world” hand out. When you finish, turn it into McGinn BEFORE you get a computer to work on your scoop. 2. Work on your weather/climate “scoop”. Remember: Current event (last 2-3 years) relating to climate or weather.
