Measuring Segments & Subsets of Lines Section 1-5
2
Vocabulary Absolute Value – the distance between 2 points on a number. Ruler Postulate – the distance between any two points is the absolute value of the difference of the corresponding numbers Ex: RS 72216
3
Congruent Segments Symbol for congruent: On a diagram:if 2 or more lines/ sides have the same markings If AB = CD, then AB = CD. If AB CD, then AB CD.
4
Vocabulary Segment Addition Postulate – If 3 pts T, E, and X are collinear and E is between T and X, then TE + EX= TX Midpoint – a point that divides the segment into two congruent segments. A midpt, line, ray, or other segment through a midpoint, is said to ‘bisect the segment’.
5
Subset, Union, Intersection Subset ( ) – AB is the subset of CD, if all the points of AB are in CD. –Ex: –Non-Ex: Union ( ) – the segment that contains AB, CD, or both Intersection ( ) – the segment that is in BOTH segments CABDACBDACBDACBD
