5. Today, Kemps Landing continues the tradition of recognizing outstanding students through the Phoenix-of-the-Month program. The program honors students based on their spirit, character, and citizenship; service involvement and leadership; and academic achievement. 8. Spotlight on Disability History and Awareness Month in Virginia. Wheelchair basketball has been played in a variety of forms since 1945. The first Annual Wheelchair Basketball Tournament was played during the first ever Wheel Chair Games in 1949.

9. Here’s the news you need to know: Thank you students for your creative Reflections entries! This year there were 127 entries. Soon they will all be on display in the library. Final results will be revealed at the GALA on Thursday, November 5 from 4-6pm in the Library. Hope to see you there.

12. This Friday, the middle school SCA will host the Harvest Dance for middle school students. The dance will be held from 6:00-8:00pm. You may purchase a ticket Thursday during lunch.

13. At the dance there will be plenty of concessions for purchase including pizza, snacks, baked goods, and drinks. Prices range from 50 cents to a dollar fifty. This is the first of three SCA fundraisers this year.

14. Congratulations to the Operation Smile Dodge ball team this past weekend on their participation in the Rush for Smiles Dodge ball tournament. It was an intense and competitive event for which we all should be proud of these 13 students who participated and maintained their INTEGRITY throughout the event. When you see them- please congratulate them!

16. Hope you are planning to be part of the fundraiser for The United Way. Our School has a goal to raise 1000 dollars. On Thursday there will be a Costume Day! If you would like to wear a costume that day it will only cost 1 dollar and your dollar will go to The United Way! You can donate even if you choose not to wear a costume that day!

17. Money will be collected that morning when you arrive and you will receive a wrist band to wear! Costume rules are no masks, no blood or gore, nothing scary, and no weapons.

18. And if everyone participates, we will meet our goal of 1000 dollars that day! If you want to contribute more as a donation to the United Way that would be great too! So let’s have fun and support the United Way a very worthy cause. Start planning your costume now!
