WHAT IS IT Architects design buildings Make them look appealing responsible for the function and safety of the buildings Must make sure that they are economical and useful to the people who need it Look good Must be safe

Process ● An architect will make a proposal ● Proposal is accepted ● More complex drafts building ● Building is constructed Will Alsop Computer Designed Proposal Finished Product

EDUCATION ● The minimum education required is a bachelor degree in Architecture ● It is recommended that either an intern ship or master degree it obtained

SKILLS ● Good communication skills (writing and verbal) ● Creative ● Good presenting skills ● Strong computer and drawing skills ● Able to work with a team ● Excellent at problem solving ● Good Math Skills

JOB OUTLOOK ● Architecture is a competitive business and the jobs available heavily depends on the the strength of the economy ● Bad Economy= less buildings built=Less jobs ● Good Economy= more buildings built = More jobs

COMPETITION ● Getting picked for the job is difficult and many other architects will be fighting to receive the commission ● Therefore it is important to work hard and set yourself apart from the rest

SALARY on Commission ● You might be paid on a salary or paid on commission ● The average commission is around 5% of construction costs ● If you design a million dollar home. ● 1 000 000 / 5% = $50 000

CONS ● Pros ● rewarded after completed, include ● paid vacation and sick leave, medical, dental, vision and life insurance ● retirement plans. ● Can work form home ● Cons ● hard to make money ● lots of competition for building ● lots of education required ● lots of hours(all nighters) ● deadlines.
