4. 4 Reading  Students were less capable of identifying key words in longer texts, eg. stories.  They had difficulty in identifying main ideas in certain text types, eg. advertisement and stories.

5. 5 Reading  Students were weak in making inferences in longer texts such as stories and diaries when they were required to infer implicit meaning from a few sentences.  They were weak in interpreting reference words. They had difficulties in identifying what ‘we’ and ‘them’ referred to in longer texts (eg. stories and diary entries).
