Are uniforms in schools a good idea?
Background The question of whether children should wear a uniform to school always makes for a lively debate, and not only among students! In some countries school uniform is normal and most schools make their students wear one.

Things to do in a persuasive essay
INTRODUCTION & THESIS Clearly define a significant problem, issue, topic, or concern; Make a assertion or judgment, or propose solutions; BODY PARAGRAPHS Support thesis by using research, logic, descriptions, illustrations, examples from experience, anecdotes addressing the reader’s potential doubts and criticisms CONCLUSION Restate the topic (your opinion) in a strong, positive way Avoid using “you” when addressing the the reader - just sounds preachy!

Ways to develop persuasive body paragraphs
Understand your audience Use effective language & voice of conviction Support your opinion Know the various sides of your issue Defend your opinion & counter the other’s side’s argument Establish your credibility Use credible sources Use facts, statistics, personal anecdotes

Thesis (also known as claim)
– states the main point or stance for the argument

Research – credible information (quotes, graphs, tables, illustrations) that make the argument more convincing

Logos – uses logic, statistics, or facts to support the argument

Ethos - the ethical appeal based on the character, credibility, or reliability of the writer

Pathos - the emotional appeal to an audience's needs, values, and emotional sensibilities
