1. ICIS Hardware/Software Environments – Discussion January 22, 2015

2. What are the ICIS Environments? ICIS has 4 separate hardware/software environments –ICIS Production –ICIS Test –ICIS AirTest –ICIS Stage (or Dev) Each environment serves a separate and unique purpose Within two weeks of a deployment of new software to Production, each test environment is brought up to the same version of software 2

3. What are the ICIS Environments? Each environment consists of 4 servers –Web Server  serves up the web pages (screens) –Application Server  houses the application software –Database Server  holds all the data to include reference table values and system logs –Business Objects Business Intelligence Server  contains the BO-BI 4.1 software  where BO-BI standard reports and ad hocs are run and stored 3

4. What are the ICIS Environments? ICIS Production –This is the operational system environment used nationwide for the collection and management of enforcement, compliance and NPDES permitting data for the Federal Enforcement and Compliance program, the CWA NPDES Program and, as of October 27, 2014, the CAA Stationary Source program. –Facility data is reconciled monthly with the Facility Registry System (FRS) –Federal End-of-Year Data Certification, Reporting and the AA’s Regional Progress meetings use this data –The OECA Suite of Measures (OSMS) Dashboard uses this data –PCS Archive data can be accessed via the BO-BI; as of December 31, AFS Archive data will be accessed via BO-BI –All EDT (Batch), ETLs,”Nightlies”, and Unofficial Incremental QNCR processes are enabled –Official and Unofficial RNC and Official QNCR are run on a designated schedule –Production NetDMR Tool transmits data to this environment –Production NeT Tool transmits data to this environment URL is https://icis.epa.gov/icis/https://icis.epa.gov/icis/ 4

5. What are the ICIS Environments? ICIS Test –This environment historically “mirrored” the Production environment –It was historically used to test out major (or quarterly) releases of ICIS, test fixes to correct software defects, and verify data corrections before applying to Production –We are looking to decommission this environment in the Spring timeframe; the software and data are not being updated (currently is pre ICIS-Air deployment) –This environment contains ICIS software version 6.4.6 and Schema Version 4 –The database contains a copy of Production data as of July 29, 2014 –All Batch, ETL,”Nightlies”, and Unofficial Incremental QNCR processes are enabled –Official and Unofficial RNC and Official QNCR are run by request only –Test NeT Tool uses this environment (we are looking to switch this to ICIS-Air Test) URL is https://icistest.epa.gov/icis/https://icistest.epa.gov/icis/ 5

6. What are the ICIS Environments? ICISAir Test –This environment was created and used to support the AFS Modernization Project –It currently “mirrors” the ICIS Production environment –All testing of major releases and data fixes is now done in this environment for all of ICIS (FE&C; NPDES; Air) –This environment contains ICIS v7.1.6 software (latest) and schema version 5 (production) and 5.1 (in Test) –The database contains a copy of production data as of December 4, 2014 –BO/BI universes and reports are available for data access against the ICIS Test database and the ICIS AirTest Database –EDT (Batch), ETLs, Nightlies, and Unofficial Incremental QNCR Enabled. –Official QNCR, Official/Unofficial RNC enabled to run on Saturday/Sunday URL is https://icisairtest.epa.gov/icis/https://icisairtest.epa.gov/icis/ 6

7. What are the ICIS Environments? ICIS Stage (Dev) –This environment is used to support :  ICIS Training  NetDMR Training by HQ or states  Testing of new releases of the NetDMR e-Reporting Tool  Ongoing testing of NPDES data flows by NPDES states using OpenNode2 Plug-in –Currently, contains a copy of Production data as of January 13, 2015 with sensitive data removed –Contains ICIS v7.1.4 of the software and Schema Version 4 and 5 (Production) –All Batch, ETL,”Nightlies”, and Unofficial Incremental QNCR processes are enabled –Official and Unofficial RNC and Official QNCR are run by request only –BO/BI Air universes and reports are currently directed at ICIS AirTest database –Test NetDMR Tool is connected to this environment URL is https://icisdev.epa.gov/icis/https://icisdev.epa.gov/icis/ 7

8. What are the ICIS Environments? ICISCopy Database –Copy of the ICIS Production database (data and physical database structure) –Refreshed nightly from Production –ECHO is refreshed from data housed in this environment –The NPDES Loadings Tool uses this database –In the future, Envirofacts will be loaded with data from this database –Not accessible via the ICIS application or BO-BI –Only available to EPA and their contractors –Access is by request 8

Coming up in Spring 2015 Moving from “owned” servers to a virtualized environment for all ICIS environments This is an Federal Mandate At the same time, downsizing from 4 environments to 3 –Production –ICIS Test (ICISAir Test renamed) –ICIS Stage (Dev) Performance should stay the same or improve Costs should go down More information to come 10
