What you need to know You have to know your school systems policies and procedures before you can begin a blog. Douglas County School District has policies and procedures for internet usage. I will be quoting from the DCSS handbook. I have attached the link to the school districts handbook. http://www.douglas.k12.ga.us/Download.asp?L=0&LMID=&PN=Pages&DivisionID=&DepartmentID=&S ubDepartmentID=&SubP=Level1&Act=Download&T=3&I=28332 http://www.douglas.k12.ga.us/Download.asp?L=0&LMID=&PN=Pages&DivisionID=&DepartmentID=&S ubDepartmentID=&SubP=Level1&Act=Download&T=3&I=28332

Links…. Make sure that you are aware of what links are being used. You may link to various websites, but pay attention that these websites must follow ALL of the DCSS policies and procedures. All links must be viewed by the teacher prior to student viewing to make sure of the content and/or message.
5
Posting to your blog Remember that you will be responsible for all the content that is on your blog. It must follow the DCSS policies. Remember that this site will be viewed by others including parents and adminstrators.
6
Student Internet Usage In order for students to use the blog, their parents have to fill out the permission form for internet safety and usage. You must also have this form in order to post pictures or work of your students. For safety reasons: Do not put any information in your blog that describes the location at a certain time posted on your blog.
7
Comments and Chats… Make sure you read all the comments before they appear. You can set up a private discussion board. This will allow for your students to comment and ask you questions. Keep your privacy settings on PRIVATE so that the public cannot put inappropriate things on the blog. Remember that Your students, parents, and others will be reading them.
