1 What’s Up?? Information and Expectations in Ms. Holder’s Class 2010-2011 Fourth Grade

2 Morning Routine  Go to breakfast, go to restroom, and get water before coming to class.  You may enter classroom after 7:45 AM.  Enter the room quietly.  Sign up for lunch.

3 Morning Routine  Unpack and lay out homework.  Sharpen 2 pencils.  Copy down homework into agenda and raise your hand to let Ms. Holder know it needs to be signed.  Begin morning work while you wait for the agenda to be signed.  If morning work is finished, read quietly at your seat or do Accelerated Math.

5 Enrichment A: Music B: Art C: Science Lab D: PE E: Rotating Enrichment (either Music, Art, Science Lab, or PE) *For the first nine weeks, we will have Music on E days.

6 Snacks  Try to bring a healthy snack.  Snack/Break time will be used to give you a break between Language Arts and Math time.  Music will be played. You can dance, move around, sit at your seat, etc.  You CANNOT be louder than the music and CANNOT take advantage of this time.  Once the music is cut off, that is your signal to clean up, make your way back to your seat, and get ready for Math.

7 Lunch Procedures Students will use hand sanitizer sometime before lining up. The class assistant will pass out student tags. You are responsible for returning them to the designated area after lunch when entering the classroom. Ms. Holder will call out the following order: lunch boxes, choice 1, and choice 2 (depending on amounts of each) You will line up at the corner of the sink area. Appropriate behavior is expected in line and while eating. The first five minutes are silent in order to use time wisely to eat. Follow instructions given by Ms. Holder or IA who watches the class. Bathroom break will follow.

8 Recess Ms. Holder will review recess rules before leaving for recess today. No tackling or body contact AT ALL. If you receive responsibility marks for homework, haven’t completed class work, have inappropriate behavior, or other consequences you will have to walk laps during recess or independent recess. Bring or wear tennis shoes EVERY DAY. This is a time for fun and being with your friends. What you do during your recess and the amount of fun you have is up to you!

9 Dismissal Changes  At 2:55, we will line up in the following order: After-school Care, Walkers, Car Riders, Van Riders, Bus Riders (Bus # will be called).  We will ALL walk together down the hall.  Follow my instructions. When I tell you to leave the line, you leave and not a moment before!  Appropriate line behavior is expected.

12 Signatures Parents must sign your reading log and agenda each night. More than 2 days not signed, parents will be called. Parents must also sign the weekly progress sheet in your Monday folders (work folders from the week). Parents sign any pre-tests you take for Word Study homework and any corrections you do.

13 Corrections? You have the opportunity to correct any assignment, except for tests other than Math. Corrections must be submitted with the original work and corrections on a separate sheet of paper. If Math, work must be shown so that I see how you got your answer. You will receive partial credit for each answer that is correct. Those points will be added to your original grade. Corrections must be signed by your parent.

16 Behavior Expectations We will work together to develop classroom rules. The following are consequences when you choose to break a conduct rule: 1st time: Green ticket—Warning 1st time: Green ticket—Warning 2nd time: Yellow ticket—Take Caution 2nd time: Yellow ticket—Take Caution 3rd time: Red ticket—Stop! 17 Positive Consequences Students who do not receive tickets or responsibility penalties for the entire week will earn a reward and/or a special privilege. Students who are “caught being good” receive rewards for showing positive behaviors. One student a month is also selected as “Student of the Month” for exhibiting positive character traits. Group stamp winners: Bring in water bottle and sugarless gum on Fridays! Phone calls home.

18 Programs and Technology Accelerated Reader  85% correct  Limited to no more than 3 tests per day  Must take 1-2 tests a week  Chapter books should be read within 2 weeks. If you think it will take longer, see me in advance to let me know.  You may use your book to help you but you have limits! Accelerated Math  Treat and sticker for 85% correct on tests  Must scan 2 or more times a week  May miss out on an activity or work at school or home if not actively following expectations of the program Study Island  Must do a minimum of one assignment a week in each of the four areas (Reading, Writing, Science, and Math) Around the World in 80 Books  This program will be explained later. 19 Classroom Library Procedures  After you have selected your book, sign the checkout card and put it in your checkout pocket.  Return the card to the book when you have finished reading it and put the book back where you found it.  All of my books must be returned by the end of the day.

20 What are some other procedures? Sharpening pencils: Sharpen in the morning and when Ms. Holder is not teaching. No more than 3 at the pencil sharpener at a time. Scanning: No more than 3 at a time. Can scan when Ms. Holder is not teaching. Bathroom and water: Go as a class. If you need to go before then, you may only go when Ms. Holder is not teaching. The only reasons you can get out of your seat without permission is to sharpen your pencil, get a tissue, to scan, or to turn in work. IF YOU NEED TO GET OUT OF YOUR SEAT FOR ANY OTHER REASON, YOU MUST RAISE YOUR HAND FOR PERMISSION AND NOT CALL OUT. We have these procedures in place so that students can learn in a quiet and respectful environment.
