3 The Founding of Disneyland Founded by Walter E. Disney Construction began on July 18, 1954 Opened to the public on July 18, 1955 First Disney theme park "To all who come to this happy place - welcome. Disneyland is your land. Here age relives fond memories of the past and here youth may savor the challenge and promise of the future. Disneyland is dedicated to the ideals, the dreams, and the hard facts that have created America... with the hope that it will be a source of joy and inspiration to all the world. Thank you.” —Walter E. Disney

4 The Location of Disneyland 1313 S Harbor Blvd, Anaheim, CA 92802 Founded on 160 acres of orange groves and walnut trees in Anaheim, southeast of Los Angeles in neighboring Orange County. Interstate 5 Freeway was being built at the same time as Disneyland. Two more lanes were added even before the park was finished because of the expected increase in traffic.

6 Description of Disneyland Walt Disney originally wanted to build "Mickey Mouse Park” Fantasyland, Adventureland, Tomorrowland, Mickey’s Toontown, Frontierland, New Orleans Square, Main Street, U.S.A., Critter Country 160 acres In 2004, the park undertook a number of major renovation projects in preparation for its 50th anniversary celebration. Many classic attractions were restored: Space Mountain, Jungle Cruise, and The Enchanted Tiki Room.

7 Life at Disneyland Characters Mickey's Toontown was created so that there would be a place for Mickey Mouse to always be available to guests in his own house. Tinkerbell flies from the top of the Matterhorn during the fireworks show. Disney characters greet visitors, interact with children, and pose for photos throughout the park.

8 Life at Disneyland Cast Members Employees sell tickets, take tickets, help people on rides, serve food, clean up. The Disneyland Band, which has been part of the park since its opening, plays the role of the Town Band on Main Street, U.S.A.

9 Special Features of Disneyland Known as “The Happiest Place on Earth” Sleeping Beauty’s Castle is designed after Neuschwanstein Castle, a royal palace in the Bavarian Alps of Germany. Main Street, U.S.A. was inspired by Walt Disney's hometown of Marceline, Missouri. The Enchanted Tiki Room was the first feature attraction to employ Audio-Animatronics, a computer synchronization of sound and robotics.
