LEADERSHIP Danielle Wheeler, Allison Belch, Jonathon Sallah, Omar Brown, Mitch Bergeson, Russell Mudge

Leadership  A person or thing that leads, guiding or directing head as of an army, movement, or political group.  Autocratic  Democratic  Lassiez-Faire  Narcissistic  Toxic

Autocratic  Leadership style characterized by individual control over all decisions and limited input form group members  Beneficial in stressful job situations to increase task efficiency  Leads to resentment towards leader, lack of contribution, and groupthink

Democratic  Group leadership model in which members participate in and vote on ideas  Benefits  Members encouraged to share ideas/opinions  Members feel more engaged  Creativity encouraged  Downsides  Can lead to communication failures and missed deadlines when rolls are not well defined, or time is short  Works best when members are skilled and eager to share their knowledge  Example  Dwight D. Eisenhower

Lassiez-Faire  Authority and power is given to subordinates  Leaders of this style believe that people excel when they are left alone to manage their own responsibilities and obligations

Narcissistic  Have a grandiose belief system and leadership style that is generally motivated by their needs for power and admiration rather than empathetic concern for the constituents and institutions they lead

Toxic Leadership  Leaders are destructive to their own organizations, exist only with followers whose fears and desires they exploit.  Make promises no one could keep  Common in military situations
