BASIC WORD PROCESSORS Word Processor Word processor is a program which is used to edit text files and format them with font, size, style, and other properties. Free options for Word Processors include Sun StarOffice and OpenOffice and Word Perfect. Basic word processors are Notepad and Wordpad.

Notepad is a basic text editor that can be used for creating simple documents or Web pages. If you don’t need to change the appearance of your text you can use Notepad. To open Notepad, click Start, point to All Programs, point to Accessories, and then click Notepad. Cut and Copy Text To cut text, to move it to another location, select the text, and then on the Edit menu click Cut. To copy text, to paste it to another location, select the text, and then on the Edit menu click Copy. BASIC WORD PROCESSORS Basic Operations in Notepad Cut & Paste

Paste Text: To paste text you have cut or copied, place the cursor where you want to paste the text, and then on the Edit menu click Paste. Delete Text: To delete text, select it, and then on the Edit menu click Delete. BASIC WORD PROCESSORS Basic Operations in Notepad Delete Text

WordPad is another basic word processor. You can save your WordPad file as a text file, rich text file (RTF), text file for MS-DOS, or Unicode. BASIC WORD PROCESSORS Wordpad

Rich Text File: This is a file format standardized by Microsoft for creating formatted text files. Unlike a basic text file, an RTF file can include information such as text style, size, and color. Unicode: A character encoding standard that represents the almost all of the written languages of the world. BASIC WORD PROCESSORS Wordpad

Open Wordpad : To open WordPad, click Start, point to All Programs, point to Accessories, and then click WordPad. BASIC WORD PROCESSORS Basic Operations in Wordpad NOTE: If you have WordPad shortcut at the Start menu you can open a WordPad document just by clicking on it. Opening Wordpad

Create a new document using WordPad: On the File menu, click New. Click the document type you want to create, click OK, and then begin typing. BASIC WORD PROCESSORS Basic Operations in Wordpad

Open an Existing Document: On the File menu, click Open. Click the drive that contains the document that you want to open. Locate the document, click it, and then click Open. BASIC WORD PROCESSORS Basic Operations in Wordpad Opening existing document

Save Changes to a Document: On the File menu, click Save. To save the file with a new name, on the File menu, click Save As, type a different name in File name, and then click Save. BASIC WORD PROCESSORS Basic Operations in Wordpad Save

Wrap text to the window size: On the View menu, click Options. NOTE: The wrapping options affect only how text appears on your screen. When printed, the document uses the margin settings specified in Page Setup. BASIC WORD PROCESSORS Basic Operations in Wordpad Wrap text

Search: Just like in the Notepad, on the Edit menu, click Find. In Find what, type the characters or words you want to find, and then click Find Next. To find additional instances of the same text, continue to click Find Next. BASIC WORD PROCESSORS Basic Operations in Wordpad

Search and Replace: Just like in the Notepad, on the Edit menu, click Replace. In Find what, type the characters or words you want to find. In Replace with, type the text you want to replace it with. Cut: To cut text, to move it to another location, select the text, and then on the Edit menu, click Cut. Copy: To copy text, to paste it in another location, select the text, and then on the Edit menu, click Copy.
