Standard Form Factored form Vertex Form

Vertex Form: Transformation of y = x 2 (a ≠ 0) a > 0 parabola opens up, a < 0 parabola opens down h moves parabola left (x + h) and right (x – h) k moves parabola up (+k) or down (-k)

Vertex Form Changing to vertex form Add something in to make a perfect square trinomial---divide the middle term by 2 and square it--- Subtract the same amount to keep it even. Now create a binomial squared. (FACTOR!!) This gives us the ordered pair (h,k) 11
5
Example 2 2. Group the variables 3. Factor out the squared coefficient 4.Complete the square Write down the coefficient-6 Divide it by 2-3 Square and add inside the ( )9 Subtract what you truly added on the back3(9) Factor as a perfect square trinomial (middle number)
