 95% of earth’s diameter.  Diameter 12,107 million km.  80% Earth’s mass. (486,924 kg)

 Gravitational force is 0.90.  Would feel lighter on Venus than Earth.  Gravitational force is 0.90.  Would feel lighter on Venus than Earth.

 108,200,000 km.  2 nd Planet from the sun.  Venus is hotter than Mercury.

 Rotates west to east instead of east to west.  One day is 243 Earth days.  One year is 225 Earth days.  You would be one year old before you are one day old.

 Average temp. on Venus 457° C – 482° C.  It’s the brightest planet in space.  Hot enough to melt a cannon ball.  Hot because Venus because of the carbon dioxide atmosphere.

 Has volcanoes that are now inactive.  Surface made of mostly harden lava.  Has hills and valleys.  Has 1 mountain range. Tallest mountain 1.6 km higher than Mount Everest.  Dried up riverbed on Venus that is longer than any river on Earth.  Impossible to see the surface through clouds

 No oxygen. Only toxic gasses. (carbon dioxide)  Pressure is 90x Earth’s atmosphere pressure.  Lots of greenhouse gasses.

 From the Romans. Named after the Greek goddess Aphrodite and the Babylonian god Ishtar.

 Believed to be Earth’s sister planet because they are almost the same size and made up of almost all the same materials.  Severe weather- Wind blows at about 320 km per hour. Lightning is up to 25 flashes per second. Occasional thunder.  Venus and Mercury are the only 2 planets without moons.
