2. The Sun The sun is the largest object in our solar system. It is made up of a big ball of gas, and is very hot. The sun is what heats the Earth. All of the planets in the solar system orbit around the sun. The planets orbiting around the sun causes day, night, and different seasons.

3. Solar System Our Solar System is made up of planets that orbit the sun. The solar system also has other things in it too. Some of these things include: comets, moons, asteroids, and other things.

4. Mercury Mercury is the planet that is closet to the sun. Mercury is made up of mostly rock and metal. Mercury is very hot and has a dense atmosphere.

5. Venus Venus is the second planet from the sun. Venus’s surface is made up of rocks, dust, mountains, canyons, plains, and has not water on it. Venus’s atmosphere is made up of carbon dioxide and nitrogen, and is covered with thick clouds. The clouds create a greenhouse effect and make Venus very hot!

6. Earth Earth is the third planet from the sun. Earth is the only planet that has people living on it. Earth’s atmosphere is made up of nitrogen and oxygen. Earth’s surface is made up of land and water, but most of Earth’s surface is covered by water.

7. Mars Mars is the fourth planet from the sun. Mars’s atmosphere is made up mainly of carbon dioxide. Mars’s surface is made up of reddish dust. Mars is the only planet that can be seen from in detail from Earth.

8. Jupiter Jupiter is the fifth planet from the sun, and is the largest planet in our Solar System. Jupiter has little rings around it, and has 39 moons.

9. Saturn Saturn is the sixth planet from the sun, and is the second largest planet in our Solar System. Saturn has 31 moons, and is made up of liquid and gas. Saturn’s atmosphere is made of hydrogen and helium. Saturn also has many rings that are made up of billions of ice particles.

10. Uranus Uranus is the seventh planet from the sun, and is the third largest planet. Uranus is made up of gas, and is known as the gas giant. Uranus’ atmosphere is made of hydrogen, helium, and methane. Uranus has 29 moons, and has rings like Saturn, Neptune, and Jupiter.

11. Neptune Neptune is the eight planet from the sun, and is known as the blue giant. Neptune has rings like Uranus, Saturn, and Jupiter. Neptune's atmosphere is made up of hydrogen and helium.
