2 STAGES OF NATIONAL BOARD Denial — ”It will be fine." ; ”400 hrs, they only say that to weed out people” Denial is usually only a temporary defense for the individual. 3 STAGES OF NATIONAL BOARD Anger — "Why me? It's not fair!” Once in the second stage, the individual recognizes that denial cannot continue. Because of anger, the person is very difficult to be around due to misplaced feelings of rage and envy. Any individual not working on National Board is subject to projected resentment and jealousy. 4 STAGES OF NATIONAL BOARD Bargaining — "Just let me get one good video." ; "I'll do anything for a few good student samples." ; "I will buy you coffee for life, if you will help me through this.”; “Mommy will buy you a pony if you just give me few minutes to write about this standard” The third stage involves the hope that the individual can somehow postpone or delay the work. During the fourth stage, the person begins to understand the enormity of the process. Because of this, the individual may become silent, refuse visitors and spend much of the time crying. This final stage comes with initial anxiety that the due date is approaching. Generally, the person in the final months needs to be left alone. Constant reading, re-reading along with counting and almost obsessive page numbering are a common trait during acceptance.
