By the end of the lesson Everyone will be able to categorise jobs using the terms primary, secondary, tertiary and quaternary Most will have explained why the amount of people working in primary and secondary jobs has declines Some will be able to explain how infrastructure and development affects employment

Types of employment With your study buddy list 20 different types of job in the back of your book. Think of different ways to classify and group these.

Classifying employment Category 1 - Primary = Take it! Primary industries extract raw materials Most of these are supplied to other industries like cocoa beans to Cadbury to make chocolate! What other Primary jobs are there?

Type 2 - Secondary = Make it! Secondary industries use raw materials and components from else where to manufacture or assemble other things Most of these are supplied to other industries that sell them to the consumer

Type 3 - Tertiary = Service it Tertiary industries provide goods and services to the public – often known as the service sector

Type 4 - Quaternary = improve it We now have a small new fourth or quaternary industrial sector. These are the inventors, the scientists and technologists, software designers, medical researchers etc… that research and design new products
