Guided Reading Kindergarten End of Year Benchmark- Level 3 First Grade End of Year Benchmark-Level 16 Book Shopping Once a week with “Just Right Books” Guided Reading At least 3-4 times per week in a small group Instructional Level Books go home/come back to school in zip bag every day Please use these books to have the students read out loud every night

Guided Reading Strategies Things to do at home Find a favorite spot to read Create a routine time to read (just before bed, right before dinner) Ask questions to your reader Who is the main character? Setting? Comprehension: What happened in the beginning, middle and end? Can you retell the story without using the book? More challenging books: Making Predictions about what’s ahead Problem and Solution

Birthdays Room 31 will celebrate all birthdays on the last school day of the month ex: Thursday, September 30th Non-edible treats only Pencils, Bouncy Balls, Notepads Summer Birthdays Celebrated at the end of the year

Parent Volunteers Walk-A-Thon Still need a crafty parent to make a medium sized flag for our class! Gardening Club Need 2 parents for this once a month activity Project Cornerstone 1 parent, 3 hours a month Filing Thursday envelopes, etc.

Closing First Grade Team presentation in the GLC Don’t forget to write back to your child on the back of their letter to you!
