French and Indian War Background : With Spain no longer a major threat, France emerged as the greatest rival to Great Britain By 1756, France and Britain had built huge empires in North America and were competing to become the strongest world power. 3

Causes of The French and Indian War The War broke out over the Ohio River valley (known for the rich resource of fur). Being initially fought far from Georgia’s borders, it had little impact on the state. 4

And the Winner is… Britain defeated France and her Allies by 1763. Outcome of War: France gave up all of its North American Colonies Spain was forced to give La Florida to Britain, but they were granted most of the French territory west of the Mississippi River 9
