Rivalry between French and British in Europe Influenced events in North American colonies To increase political and economic power British and French competed for better land and control over new trading opportunities Colonial governments tried to coexist with Native Americans Made alliances with some tribes while alienating others DIPLOMATIC STRUGGLES

Ultimately, the British Government poured troops and resources into protecting its possessions in the Americas taxed their colonists to pay for those resources The taxes eventually became a rallying cry for the American independence movement DIPLOMATIC STRUGGLES
