13 Oh, SNAP?! (a quick background on why and what) a (very) brief history: Starting in 1994, the federal food stamps program switched from paper coupons to EBT on a Lone Star card – which can be swiped through a POS system. The first Food Stamp Program (FSP) started back in 1939 – in order to make sure “unmarketable food surpluses were distributed to the those affected by widespread unemployment.” For more information: http://www.fns.usda.gov/snap/rules/ Legislation/about.htm http://www.fns.usda.gov/snap/rules/ Legislation/about.htm why farmers markets?  Expand opportunities for everyone to purchase just-picked produce, wholesome meat, dairy, and bread.  Increase economic market for farmers and vendors.  Create a more just and sustainable local food economy with access for all!

14 End of Market*  Cash out vendors  Collect vendor booth fees  Complete Token Reporting Forms

15 Don’t Worry  If you can figure out your iphone, you can figure out a POS!  If you want to study up, you can log on to http://www.fmpayments.com where all procedures are covered. http://www.fmpayments.com  We will also have a binder at market for the most common transactions.  If you need help, ASK!
