Work What is work? Motion must take place for work to take place What is the unit for work? Joule (J) (This is also the same unit for Energy) Work takes place when electrical energy is converted to mechanical energy and vice versa What about electrical work? (no motion involved?) 1 Joule = Energy required to raise 1 Coulomb of charge through a potential difference of 1 Volt
23
Work What is the equation for work? W = Q * V Work = Charge * Voltage Joules = Coulombs * Volts
24
Power What is Power? Power is how much work can be done in a specific amount of time (Like MPH) Units for Power is Watts (W) (Like MPH) P = Work / Time
25
Power Equation for Power Power = Voltage * Current Power = Work / Time P = V * I Power = Q * V / Time Power = I * Time * V / Time Remember W = Q*V Remember I = Q/t Thus Q = I*t Power = I * V
26
Power See how Power also equals: P = V 2 /R P = I 2 * R
27
Power P = ? Watts I = 6 Amps V = 3 Volts P = V 2 /R P = I 2 * R P = V * I P = 18 Watts
28
Power P = 18 Watts I = 6 Amps V = 3 Volts P = V 2 /R P = I 2 * R P = V * I R = ? Ω R =.5 Ohms
29
Power P = ? Watts I = 5 Amps V = ? Volts P = V 2 /R P = I 2 * R P = V * I R = 10 Ohms P = 250 Watts V = 50 Volts
30
Power P = ? Watts V = 3 Volts P = V 2 /R P = I 2 * R P = V * I R = 9 Ω P = 1 Watts
31
Power P = 32 Watts P = V 2 /R P = I 2 * R P = V * I R = 2 Ω I = ? A I = 4 Amps
32
Power P = ? P = V 2 /R P = I 2 * R P = V * I I = ? P = 20W I = 2A
33
Power P = ? P = V 2 /R P = I 2 * R P = V * I R = ? P = 2W R = 50 Ohm
