F is for finding an interesting book

Start with Your Interests

Read the Blurbs Read the summary on the back of the book (paperback) or the inside cover (hardback). If you find a book you really like, read the quotes (if there are any) and see which authors liked the book. Those authors usually have similar styles and you might like books by those authors, too.

Ask Other People Family favorites Friends Book clubs Librarians or teachers Best sellers or award winners

I is for Investigating if the book is too hard or too easy

5 Finger Method Open the book to any page and start reading. Each time you come to a word you don't know put down one finger on your hand. If you reach five hard words on a page, the book is a bit hard for you at the moment.

T is for Trying a book or Trading it for another one

Try It I open to a few random pages and start reading. If it catches my attention and I want to keep reading, I get it.

Trade It If you start a book and still don’t like it after reading 20 pages or so, put it back. Life is too short to waste reading a book you don’t like.
