5 th Grade Open House Welcome Parents!

Goals To give students the academic and social skills they need to progress to the next grade level. To provide a supportive and fun classroom environment. To help students discover new interests.

Classroom Management Plan Our classroom is a community. In our community, we have rules to help us get along with each other. Our class rules are: Be respectful and responsible. Be organized and follow directions. Be on time. Be prepared.

Grading Scale 90-100 = A 80-89 = B 70-79 = C 60-69 = D 59 or lower = F

Homework Procedures Homework will be assigned every night. Homework is due on a daily basis, if a student misses more than 3 homework assignments they are given a detention. Parents, please check agendas daily for any comments. A/R Goals are part of daily homework. If goals are not met, a detention will be given.

Attendance Policy School starts at 8:30 A.M. If your child is not in the classroom by the time the second bell rings, please have him/her check in at the school office before coming to class. A maximum of 10 handwritten notes will be allowed. If a student is absent 3 times without an excused note, they will receive a referral note. After 10 tardies a student will receive a referral. For every 10 early dismissals, a student will receive a referral.

Volunteer Hours It is mandatory that parents complete 30 hours per student and 15 hours for each sibling, as per parent contract. Half of the hours must be completed by mid school year as per administration. Each hour is equivalent to $5 Many events are coming up in order to complete some hours. Hispanic Heritage Book Fair Night World’s Finest Chocolate Sales We also have lots of fun field trips planned for this year, parents are always welcomed! Please remember to complete a volunteer form along with a copy of your driver’s license

Uniform Policy Students are required to wear the proper uniform Students that do not follow policy will not be able to return to class unless the proper uniform is in place If a student does not follow the guidelines 3 or more times, they will receive a referral All students are to wear uniforms everyday, unless a school function is being held, like United Way, which may allow for them to wear different attires Fridays are jeans day for $1.00

How to order uniforms Place online orders on Mater Gardens Select Parents – Select Make a Payment Uniforms will be distributed on Tuesdays to the students

Parent Portal Please check routinely for grades in the parent portal Parents need a pin number, please check with your child’s teacher if you do not have one.

Student Portfolio We will be collecting student work samples in each grade level. Every student needs to bring in a black 2” binder.
