HIV/AIDS Introduction Acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) is caused by the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). AIDS may manifest as early as 2 years or as late as 10 years after infection with HIV. 33.4 million are living with HIV With 16,000 new infections daily Source: UNAIDS/WHO 1998.
