VOLUME AND SURFACE AREA REVIEW
2
FIND THE VOLUME OF EACH FIGURE. V = lwh V = (6)(7)(10) V = 420 cm³ V = Bh B = (1/2)(6)(8) = 24 V = (24)(12) V = 288 units³
3
VOLUME The volume of a solid is the amount of space inside the solid. Volume is measured in cubic units. Formulas Volume of Rectangular Solids = lwh l = length w = width h = height Volume of NON- rectangular solids = Bh B = Area of the base h = height
4
FIND THE SURFACE AREA USING THE NET 4 x 10 = 40 cm² 17 x 10 = 170 cm² 4 x 17= 68 cm² Add them up! SA = 40 + 40 + 170 + 170+ 68 + 68 SA = 556cm²
5
EXAMPLE HOW MUCH WRAPPING PAPER DO YOU NEED TO COMPLETELY COVER A RECTANGULAR BOX THAT IS 20 INCHES BY 18 INCHES BY 6 INCHES? SA= 2B + Ph SA= 2(360) + 76(6) SA= 720 + 456 SA= 1176 in² B = 20 x 18 = 360 in² P = 20 + 20 + 18 + 18 = 76 in
6
FIND THE SURFACE AREA SA= 2B + Ph SA= 2(24) + 24(12) SA= 48 + 288 SA= 336 units²
