WiMAX TECHNOLOGY Presented By S.JEEVA.,M.JAGATHAA.,IIB.E.,

INTRODUCTION  WiMAX means worldwide interoperability for microwave access.  IEEE name-802.16.  It is similar to WiFi.  It replaces DSN(digital subscriber line)and cables.

WHAT IS WiMAX  Highspeed broadband internet access over a wireless connection.  Used for long distances and effective.  “hot spots”in college campuses.  Delivers a point to multi-point architecture.

HOW WiMAX WORKS  TOWER-similar to mobile tower.  RECEIVER-receiver and antenna are small box.  COVERAGE- 3000 square miles.  WiMAX TOWER CONNECTION-  To internet by high bandwidth.  Line of sight-microwave.  Backhaul-coverage to remote rural areas.

FORMS OF WIRELESS SERVICES  NON-LINE -OF-SIGHT:  Small antenna on a PC connects the tower.  Lower frequency range-2GHz to 11GHz.  Able to diffract or bend around obstacles similar to WiFi.

ANOTHER FORM  LINE-OF-SIGHT:  Fixed dish antenna points to WiMAX tower.  Placed at roof top or pole.  Stronger and more stable.  Higher frequncy range-66GHz.  Less interfrence, more bandwidth.

WIMAX-SCENARIO  ISP sets a wimax base station around 10 miles.  Old computers are upgraded with WIMAX capability.  Special encryption code is given to access WIMAX  Base station beams data from internet to computers.

NETWORK SCALE  PAN-Personal area network  Smallest scale network  Communication over short distance  EX-BLUETOOTH  LAN-Local area network  Limited to small central area

WIMAX IN MAN  MAN-METROPOLITAN AREA NETWORK  Cities can be connected using WIMAX  MAN-connects upto 30 mile radius  STANDARDS-IEEE802.16

IEEE VERSIONS  IEEE802.16-determines final specification included in WiMAX.  Different versions added different facilities.  CURRENT VERSION-IEEE802.16d.  Provides upgrade path.  IEEE802.16e-provides true mobile WiMAX standards.

ADVANTAGES OVER WiFi  Greater range and more bandwidth.  Connectivity to entire cities.  Covers large area.  Connects rural areas.  Saves man power. WiFi-does not provide these all.

RANGE AND DATA TRANSFER RATE  NLOS-4 to 5 mile range.  Can pass through 3 cover and building walls.  Data transfer rate-robust data throughput.  75Mbps per channel.   LOS-10 miles.   Depends upon the frequency ranges.

CONCLUSION  More better and flexible security.  Very useful in rural areas.  It saves the time very much.  Builds our economy.

THANK YOU QUERIES??????
