Subjective vs. Objective – what’s the difference? Subjective: Personal ideas › I think falcons are the best birds on the planet! Objective: Ideas supported by facts and NOT personal beliefs › Falcons have long and pointed wings.

In film language, point of view is called the subjective camera view and the objective camera view.

This is when, in film, you are seeing things through the main character’s eyes. VERY much like first person POV in literature. It is called the subjective view because you are seeing things from the main character’s personal perspective. The camera IS the eye of the viewer! Can you think of some examples from movies you’ve seen?

This is when, in film, you are seeing things from a “watching” camera’s view. VERY much like third person POV in literature. It is called the objective view because you are seeing things from a neutral position, watching things unfold. The objective view is not the view of a character in the film. Can you think of some examples from movies you’ve seen?
