Simulation A Tool in Teaching Science IVY CLAIRE V. MORDENO

(Physics Education Technology) Simulations - is a project of the University of Colorado in Boulder, Colorado, USA which is supported by the National Science Foundation and the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation

PhET provides fun, interactive, research-based simulations of physical phenomena for free! research-based PhET simulations animate what is invisible to the eye through the use of graphics and intuitive controls such as click-and-drag manipulation, sliders and radio buttons to help students visually comprehend concepts.

PhET simulations offer measurement instruments including rulers, stop- watches, voltmeters and thermometers to further encourage quantitative exploration. PhET simulations are extensively tested and evaluated to ensure educational effectiveness and usability.

PhET simulations are freely available from the PhET website and are easy to use and incorporate into the classroom.

The persons behind PhET Back Row: Linda Wellman, Michael Dubson, Jonathan Olson, Sam Reid, Chris Malley, Robert Parson, John Blanco, Carl Wieman Front Row: Marj Frankel, Kelly Lancaster, Trish Loeblein, Kathy Perkins, Noah Podolefsky, Alex Adams, Wendy Adams, Noah Finkelstein

TopicsTopics with PhET simulation  Physics  Chemistry  Mathematics

Workshop  Form a group of 3 members  You’ll be given an activity sheet about greenhouse effect and you will answer it by groupactivity sheet Your group must designate a: - manager to organize the work and make certain everyone understands who is supposed to be doing what - recorder to prepare the final output - skeptic/checker to verify the answers for correctness and to ensure that everyone in the group understands the answers

 Download the file Greenhouse Activity Sheet found in the PhET page of our wiki  Answer the activity and embed it in our wiki  You are just given 15 – 20 minutes to answer it and you are going to present to the whole group your output  Apply Collaborative WorkCollaborative Work
