Recall, what defines a like term in terms of variables and powers? Examples; xy 3 and 21xy 3 How did we combine like terms with addition or subtraction?

At times, we may have to do another step before we can begin to combine like terms and add or subtract Recall, your order of operations PEMDAS

Distributive Property If we have to use the distributive property, we will multiply EACH term by the coefficient preceding the groups of terms Then, we may add and subtract similar to before What to keep in mind; 1) Multiply each term 2) Utilize properties of exponents 3) Combine like terms using your vertical method
