Chile - Notes Between the 1920’s and 1973, Chile was governed by elected presidents who tended to the left side of the political spectrum – Many were socialist, meaning that they wanted the government to entirely control the economy and distribute wealth evenly In 1973, a military coup put Augusto Pinochet in charge of a junta in Chile (put this on your timeline) – Coup: The sudden overthrow of a government – Junta: a government run by generals after a military takeover – Pinochet and the Junta pushed Chile’s economy far to the right on the political spectrum
