Why Zone Defence? STRENGTHS n Makes inside shooting difficult n Can be arranged to suit physical qualities of team n Rebound triangle to secure possession WEAKNESSES n Offence play at their own tempo n Weak against good outside shooters n All 5 players must be able to defend effectively n Requires very effective communication

Why Man for Man defence? STRENGTHS n Allows ‘matching-up’ (Strengths & Weaknesses) n Pressure on ball carrier / offence n Effective against poor outside shooters WEAKNESSES n Physically very demanding n Does not protect basket area n Difficult to secure defensive rebounds
